This Place

The ceiling of my soul is a wide sky
with braces that are thick and rough and heavy,
crafted by a quiet carpenter
for space and size and sanctuary.

It houses dreams.

It houses healing
and waves and wheat
and cold fresh air
and dancing light.

It was built for you -

To thaw in me
a gentle warmth.
You are the morning
of my day as a man, a.m. -

Respecting all the drums -

You have brought ceremony
and feast and fire
and prayer and rain
and laughter
to the sacred ground of my soul.

You have brought grace
to the shadow of these timbers.

You move inside me
soft like a stone -
as the wind and sun
pelt on my back

Unnoticed.
